The Zonk is Scooter Pie’s downsized cousin, but don’t let its reduced size and materials fool you, this fly hunts. The Zonk proves big production sometimes comes in small packages. Versatility defines this streamer, as it can be fished with a four-weight, is an excellent trailer fly behind a larger pattern, and is perfect for swinging and trout spey techniques. Big hand-sized streamers jazz up streamer junkies (as much as the trout) and certainly have a place, yet small versatile streamers are must-haves no matter where fly fishers venture. Don’t leave the Zonk on your bench when you need the streamer fishing equivalent of a windmill dunk, even if it’s coming from something that seems unusually small for the situation.
